How to get to Langkawi?

10 Aug

Assalam!

I’ve received an email, from a friends from europe’s country, asking on getting to Langkawi. I’ll try my best to give you more informations on getting there.

Langkawi is an archipelago made up of 99 islands on Malaysia’s west coast. Surrounded by turquoise sea, the interior of the main island is a mixture of picturesque paddy fields and jungle-clad hills. Also known as duty-free island, Langkawi offers you various tax-imposed items, at lower price! You only need to stay in Langkawi for a minimum of 48 hours to take back home a reasonable amount of tax free goods. Still, Nature-lovers will find the island just as agreeable as the shoreline is fringed by powder-fine sand and swaying coconut trees.

The island is especially recognised for its excellent diving opportunities and this tropical gem hides a treasure trove of other exciting holiday opportunities. From the expansive Underwater World Langkawi along Pantai Cenang to the soaring Cable Car in Pantai Kok, Langkawi is an electrifying locale that keeps visitors coming back for more.

Getting there:

1. By bus

You can’t take a bus directly to Langkawi Island =)! However, from KL, take the bus from Pudu Sentral (Bus Terminal for northbound destination). You can take the bus either from KL to Alor Setar (city centre for Kedah) or to Kuala Perlis.

Tips during buying an express bus ticket at Pudu Sentral:

Buy at counter. Do not buy from ticket-pledger outside the counter.

Express bus fare:

KL-Alor Star : RM39.00

KL-Kuala Perlis : RM 47.20

*Bus ticket fare slightly higher during festive season.

Continue your journey to ferry terminal. From Alor Setar, you can use Kuala Kedah Ferry Terminal. To get there, you can either take a taxi, or take a local bus to ‘Terminal Feri’ Kuala Kedah.

Taxi Fare Alor Setar – Kuala Kedah : RM 25-RM50 (Please negotiate with the taxi driver) – ~20minutes

Bus fare from Alor Setar to Kuala Kedah : RM3-5 (Approximately) ~1 hour

2. By Airplane

You can take a domestic flight from:

KL to Langkawi

Penang to Langkawi

Johor Bharu to Langkawi

There are three main operator for domestic flights, i.e. Malaysia Airlines (MAS), Air Asia (LCCT Terminal), and FireFly (Subang Terminal).

3. Ferry to Langkawi

As I said before, there are two main ferry terminal in Mainland, i.e Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis Terminal.

From Kuala Kedah:

-Duration : 1hour 45 minutes

-Fare : RM23.00

From Kuala Perlis:

-Duration : 1 Hour 15 Minutes

-Fare : RM 18.00
